Metlakatla First Nation seeks nominations for August elections



The Metlakatla First Nation has started the first stage of a two part process, that will lead to elections on August 24th.

A Nomination meeting has been called for Saturday, July 6th, from Noon to 4 PM at the Main Office Building at Metlakatla Village. Special Ferry Service from Prince Rupert to Metlakatla has been arranged for Nomination Day.

From that meeting will come a listing of the candidates for the August Election, among the positions up for election at that time are Chief and Six Councillors.

The Current council consists of Chief Harold Leighton, as well as Councillors Alvin W. Leask, Cindy Smith, Anita Leask, Robert Nelson Sr., James Nelson Sr., and Alvin Bolton Jr.

Members of the Metlakatla First Nation are asked to contact Lawrence Lewis, the Electoral Officer to ensure that they are on the Electors List.

Further information on the voting list and other Election items of note can be found on the Metlakatla First Nation's website.

Those that are successful on Election Day will serve for up to a 3 year term on Council.

Update:  Incumbent Chief Councillor Harold Leighton was acclaimed to office, leaving only the race for six council seats to be settled on August 24th.
