Countdown to Sugar Shack time is underway

Your chance to experience a "taste of Quebec" is just a little bit more than a week away, as L'Association des Francophones et Francophiles du Nord-Ouest puts the finishing touches on the 2014 Sugar Shack celebrations.

The annual festival of Francophone culture celebrating its fourth year, offers up some family fun taking place on January 25th from 11:30 AM to 2 PM at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.

Beyond the always enjoyable array of traditional foods available for brunch, organizers have a wide range of activities are planned for children for Saturday.

Included in the events of the day a performance by the group Les Bucherons, for those that purchase tickets prior to Saturday a special workshop hosted by Les  Bucherons will be held in the Auditorium, as space is limited in the Auditorium ticket holders are advised that the workshop is a first come first serve basis.

In addition to the activities of the day, taking in the Sugar Shack could win you  a trip out of town.

There are two grand prizes for Saturday's event, with Hawkair offering a return trip for two to Vancouver and VIA Rail providing a return trip for four from Prince Rupert to Jasper, Alberta.

Advance tickets are available at Cooks Jewellers on 3rd Avenue West and the AFFNO Office inside of Hecate Strait Building on 1st Avenue East.

Early Bird tickets are available until January 17th and those that take advantage of that opportunity will be eligible to win a return trip for two (with vehicle) from Prince Rupert to Haida Gwaii with BC Ferries.

While Saturday is the big day for the Sugar Shack, there are two other items in the run up to Saturday's showcase event.

Thursday AFFNO kicks off Sugar Shack weekend with social at Cowpuccino's starring at 7 PM with tickets available at Cowpuccino's and the AFFNO office.

Friday night, AFFNO takes over the stage at the Tom Rooney Playhouse with an evening of local music,  Showtime is 8:30 PM with tickets  available for 10 dollars at Teddy's or the AFFNO office, those that wait til showtime will have to pay 12 dollars at the door.
