Cannery Road Race set for Saturday


With the rains of fall almost upon us, the days for an enjoyable jog down the road are nearly at an end.

The final major event on the North Coast Running calendar takes place tomorrow, as participants take to the Port Edward arterial road as part of the Cannery Road Race.

The annual September run is one of the most anticipated of the four main events that are planned each year by the Rupert Runners Club.

This year. like those of the past the Rupert Runners are offering up a wide range races and for different levels of participation for those planning to taking part in Saturday's Cannery Road Race event:

10 km Walk and 1/2 Marathon which starts at 11 AM

A Kids 1 km Fun Run starting at 11:30 AM

The 5 km and 10 km runs and 5 km walk which starts at 12 Noon

There will be a Barbecue at the North Pacific Site starting at 1 PM, with awards and draws for prizes to follow.

For those that are there to cheer on a participant, the fee for the BBQ lunch is 7 dollars for non-participants in the day's races.

Registrations have been open for a while now, but for those looking to register late or to pick up their Race Packages today is pick up day.

Packages will be available at Cowpuccinos Coffee House on Cow Bay Road tonight from 7-9

On the Day of the Race, they can be picked up at North Pacific Cannery from 10 to 10:30.

Race Fees for the event are as follows: Adults $30, 60 and over $25, 19 and Under $15, Kids Fun Run free.

Members of the Rupert Runners receive a $5 discount.

Weather conditions for Saturday's event at North Pacific look excellent for a walk or a run, with a mix of sun and cloud called for, with morning fog patches giving way to sunshine by the afternoon.

Motorists that may be travelling to the North Pacific Cannery site on Saturday are reminded to be aware of the race along the access road to North Pacific and drive with caution
