Prince Rupert renews commitment to Child Friendly status

During Monday's short Special Council session, City Council renewed the city's commitment towards Child Friendly status, by re-introducing a Proclamation to Declare Prince Rupert "A Child Friendly Community".

The request to council came from the Success by 6 organization, which is hosting a number of workshops today and Friday for parents and children. You can view some of the activities planned over the next couple of days from the information sheet below:

The organization will also be hosting a Children's Day at Mariner's Park on Saturday, with a range of events planned starting at 11 AM.  As part of the celebration, the Proclamation will be read to the gathering at Mariner's following the opening ceremonies for the day.

Among some of the activities through the afternoon will include the Barefoot Caravan, The Kerplunks, some face painting, Craft tent, photo booth  and entertainment. The artwork of local children will also be on display.

The activities for the day wrap up at 3 PM.

You can learn more about the Success by Six program here or through the Prince Rupert early years website.

Further information on the Children's Day in the Park can be found from the group's Facebook page.

The Mayor's notes on the proclamation can be viewed from the City's Video archive below. They start at the 27 minute mark.
