Back to School Openings on the horizon for the North Coast

The signs have been around for a few weeks now, the stores with their Back to School sales, fresh paint on the roadways leading to the school's advising motorists that they're entering a School Zone, as the final days of August begin to count down, for teachers, students and parents Back to School time is just over the horizon.

For those not registered in the schools of the District that process begins on August 31st through September 4th. All elementary school offices will be open those days from 9 until Noon to register students who are new to the District or have move to a new school area during the summer.

Registration will also be available from August 31st to September 4th for new students at Charles Hays Secondary, Prince Rupert Middle School and Pacific Coast.

For back to school supply shoppers, the School District has posted the School lists for those school's that require student's to purchase their supplies, (see list here) some school's have purchased supplies for students and parents can pay at the school.
September 8th is the day to circle on the calendar, School Opening 2015 takes place at all elementary schools, as well as the city's Middle School PRMS, Secondary School Charles Hays and the Pacific Coast School.

For elementary students Grades 1 to 5 will be in session for two hours on September 8th from 10 until Noon. Parents of Kindergarten students will be notified as to the start times for their children by their respective schools.

For the Prince Rupert Middle School, Back to School is in two waves, with Grades 7 and 8 to report from 10:30 to Noon, While Grade 6 students will attend their first day from 1 until 3 PM.

Charles Hays Secondary also divides the first day into two segments, Grade 9 and 10 students report at 9:45 AM while students in Grades 11 and 12 are to be at the school at 1 PM.  CHSS staff remind students that that being present at the first day of class is important to ensure that they have a seat in classes that they will need.

Pacific Coast students in all Grades report at 10 AM.

The regular class schedules for all School's will begin on Wednesday, September 9th.

With the start of the new school year, the new transportation schedule will also come into effect, Ferry transportation from Metlakatla will leave Metlakatla at 750AM, with buses leaving the Metlakatla Ferry Dock in Prince Rupert for the schools at 8:25.
