Prince Rupert RCMP find reported abduction attempt as unfounded

The Prince Rupert RCMP addressed a number of postings on social media in recent weeks related to what had been described as an attempted abduction in the downtown area of the city, providing some background into an incident of January 22nd.

In a media release from Monday the RCMP noted that the incident in question took place at 6th Street and 3rd Avenue West in the downtown area on the evening of January 22nd.

Advising the public that their investigation into the situation has determined that while a verbal interaction did take place between a man and a 16 year old female, the man did not exit his vehicle and did not grab the female.

The local detachment made note as to how quickly the incident was repeated on social media and how the facts of the incident in question were clearly missing a few key elements of what took place at that time.

As part of the media release, the RCMP has reminded those that rely on social media for their information of how without full facts and understanding of an incident, that comments posted on such sites could damage the reputation of someone.
