Council calls special session to move Utility Fee increases forward

Prince Rupert City Council holds a
Special Session tonight to vote on
their planned fee increases for 2017
The mad dash to the end of the year is underway for City Council as they look to put in place the required bylaws to move forward their plans for increased fees for city utilities in 2017.

As we outlined on the blog earlier today, Council discussed the fee increases and issues related to plans to address asset Management at Monday's Council session, providing first, second and third motion for the increases at that time.

The Bylaws require a final reading however and with the days dwindling before City Hall shuts down for the holidays (December 24th  to January 2nd) Council will hold a Special Council Session tonight to provide its final word on the Bylaw issues.

That session is scheduled for 5:30 and will provide residents with an indication as to how Council plans to address the request for utility fee increases and its longer term asset management planning.

You can review the Agenda for this evenings session here.

Also part of tonight's Council Session is Closed meeting scheduled for 5 PM that session, which will be closed to the public cites the following items from Section 90 of the Community Charter:

90.1 (a) personal information about an identifiable individual who holds or is being considered for a position as an officer, employee or agent of the municipality or another position appointed by the municipality; and;

 and (k) negotiations and related discussions respecting the proposed provision of a municipal service that are at their preliminary stages and that, in the view of the council, could reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the municipality if they were held in public.
