Rice campaign set for official launch this Saturday

Those looking to return NDP incumbent Jennifer Rice to the Legislature will be celebrating the official launch of her campaign this Saturday, inviting the community to drop into the campaign office for a visit.

The North Coast MLA  will be on hand and ready to welcome those with questions on local issues, or to sign up anyone that may wish to help out as a volunteer worker for the campaign ahead which leads up to the May 9th election.

The Rice Campaign is set up at the old Trayling's Tackle Shop location at 635 2nd Avenue West and that location should at least ensure that lots of coffee and snacks may be available at Rice central for those that drop by.

Besides the Tim Horton's across the road, the campaign office is located right in the heart of the city's food alley, with Subway, Pita Pit and a string of other restaurants all within the view of the front doors.

The official opening is set for 2 until 4 tomorrow afternoon with cake and refreshments available for those that stop in for a chat or to sign up as a volunteer.

If nothing else, the start of the 2017 election campaign is providing for a short burst of revenue for the owners of Prince Rupert's empty storefront locations, last weekend Liberal candidate Herb Pond opened his campaign office on Third Avenue West across from City West.

Considering the number of store fronts currently available for rent or lease in the city, one imagines that Green candidate Hondo Arendt should be able to negotiate a pretty good short term arrangement for his needs.

He  may be even able to start a bidding for his rent money should his campaign look to set up their own space in town.
