Seafest Spotlight 2017: Sports, Sports, Sports!

There's no shortage of athletic adventures to participate with or cheer on from the sidelines this Seafest weekend, with a wide range of sports activities making their mark on the Seafest Schedule.

Slowpitch and Soccer launch the three days of sporting events, with two tournaments set to provide some entertainment over the course of Seafest weekend, along the way there is a growing list of other sports events to fill you calendar and leave you covering a good portion of the city in quest of the next big event.

Among your options from Friday to Sunday.

Seafest Slow Pitch Tournament -- Hosted by the Kaien Island Slo-Pitch League, the Co-ed event takes place all weekend at the Ball Fields at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.

Seafest Men's Soccer Tournament -- Prince Rupert FC is organizing the annual soccer tournament which brings a range of out of town competition and will take place at the Charles Hays Secondary School field through the weekend.

Jim Ciccone Memorial 3 on 3 Basketball -- The 18th edition of the popular 3 on 3 tourney starts Friday afternoon from 4 until 8 PM with Friday's event set for the parking lot at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.

Saturday the 3 on 3 tournament shifts to the area in front of Cook's Jewellers on Third Avenue West with the first tip off set for 1 PM and competition continuing through until 6 PM.

Sunday the final day of the competition shifts to the Waterfront parking lot, with the Championship Games and medal presentations. The first game goes at 11 AM with the tournament wrap up coming towards 3 PM.

Should rain provide for nasty conditions, the event will be moved indoors to the Civic Centre.

Sponsors for the 3 on 3 Basketball tournament include: Cook's Jewellers, CityWest, Good Times Games, Special Events Volunteer committee.

Proceeds from the tournament will be put towards the CHSS graduate bursary program

4 on 4 Street Hockey Tournament -- The sound of sticks on pavement and shots from the point will be the main background noise in the street area beside Tim Horton's this weekend as the 4 on 4 Street Hockey tournament returns for year number 12.

The event which features competition in seven different categories starts bright and early on Saturday morning at 8 AM with the day long celebration of Street hockey continuing through until 6 PM.

Sponsors of the 4 on 4 Street Hockey Tournament include Tim Horton's and the Prince Rupert Minor Hockey Association.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Tim Horton's Children's Foundation

Seafest 10's Rugby -- Patullo field at Prince Rupert Middle School marks the battleground for an exhibition of Rugby on the North Coast with the Prince Rupert Rugby Club hosting the Saturday event which runs from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Northern Savings Youth Soccer Skills -- Northern Savings hosts the accuracy competition at their 3rd Avenue West location. Those taking part have the opportunity to win a free placement in the Goalgetters Camp in July.

The event runs from 2 to 4 PM



Seafest Grass Volleyball tournament -- If the weather plays along, the Courthouse lawn will be the home of spikes and volleys on Saturday as the Second Annual Seafest Grass Volleyball Tournament launches the balls into the air at 10 AM  with the tournament running through until 6 PM.  Should it rain, the event will be shifted to the Gymnasium at Charles Hays Secondary School.

Teams will be limited to 4 on 4 and all teams must have at least one female on the court at all times. The day long event covers play for a range of ages from 14 years, novice and advanced divisions. Registration fee is 15 dollars and the deadline for entries is June 9th.

Seafest 8 ball tournament -- A single elimination pool tournament will find out who can play the angles the best, as Hot Shots Family Entertainment on 2nd Avenue West hosts their first tournament from 2 to 4 PM. 




Arm Wrestling Challenge -- The Belmont Hotel is once again the host for one of the most popular of Seafest Saturday events, as the muscles flex and the strategy plays out in the 39th edition of the Arm Wrestling challenge. There are four weight categories for Men and two for Women during the course of the three hours from 2 until 5 PM.  Weigh In for the competition takes place at Noon, the entry fee is ten dollars.
