By the hundreds visitors come ashore from Cystal Symphony port call

An afternoon stop Thursday at Northland Terminal for the Crystal Symphony

Almost one third of July's cruise ship visitors came ashore on Thursday in Prince Rupert as the Crystal Symphony made its only stop at Northland Terminal for the year, providing an opportunity for its 922 passengers and crew members the chance to explore the city through the afternoon and early evening.

The Bahamas flagged Symphony which offers a range of luxury for its guests, is currently on a schedule that has it located just North of Vancouver Island, making its way to Victoria for arrival on Saturday.

Yesterday, the Northland Terminal was buzzing with activity in the early afternoon period, with passengers quickly passing through Customs and heading off  to discover the city, many taking advantage of the shuttle bus tours that were proving popular through the day.

Others took to walking towards the downtown core, with the Museum of Northern British Columbia making for a popular gathering spot as they went about their walkabout in the area.

The Cow Bay Dock also was finding some interest from those taking some shore time, with a number of visitors capturing the image of their cruise ship up against the Mariners Park Cliffs.

Others took note of the number of yachts tied up at the Cow Bay facility with one vessel in particular, the Fortuna making for a number of photo backdrops.

The Symphony's passenger count of 922, makes for a significant share of the July visitor totals which offer up the potential of 3,653 guests for the city this month, with another 2,684 set to come ashore from another six port calls in August.

Cruise Industry officials will be hoping that the one time stop this year for the Symphony will lead to further visits from the Crystal line in the years to come and help to spread the word on what Prince Rupert has to offer for the Alaska cruise schedule for the future.
