Sugar Shack planning continues on way to January 23rd festival kick off

Organizers are putting the finishing touches on this years plans for the annual festival of French Canadian culture in Prince Rupert, as AFFNO prepares to present Sugar Shack 2019.

This year marks the ninth edition of the festival which will feature events spread out from Wednesday January 23rd to Sunday the 27th and much like years in the past it will follow themes of music, theatre, film and food set to take place at a number of venues around the city.

The centrepiece event for the week is the always popular Sugar Shack brunch which takes place at the Civic Centre from Noon to 2 PM and features food, music, activities for the kids and the bounty of the sugar shack of toffee on snow.

The schedule for the annual celebration of all things French in the NordOuest looks as follows:

Wednesday January 23 -- Kick Off Social at Cowpucinnos, 7PM Tickets 3 dollars

Thursday January 24 -- French Cinema night at Prince Rupert Cinemas Tickets 10 dollars (PG)

Friday January 25 -- Dessert Theatre at the Tom Rooney Playhouse Tickets 15 dollars (PG)

Saturday January 25 -- Sugar Shack Brunch at the Civic Centre Noon Hour Tickets go for 15 dollars for adults, 10 dollars per child 12 and under.

Saturday, January 25 -- Guitare 3 Trio at the Lester Centre @ 8PM. Tickets 20 dollars (5 dollars less if you use your Sugar Shack ticket stub at the door prior to showtime

Sunday, January 27 -- Free Children's Show at the Prince Rupert Library featuring Anne Glover and Vazzy.


The Grand Prize for the Saturday Sugar Shack celebrations at the Civic Centre is a Trip for 2 adults with VIA Rail on the Skeena run, from Prince Rupert to Jasper

Tickets to many of the Sugar Shack events are available from Cook's Jewellers on Third Avenue West or at the AFFNO offices in the Hecate Strait Building..
