Prince Rupert's Frank Slubowski and his Western Michigan University team mates ran into a buzz saw this weekend past, as the Broncos dropped both games of a weekend series against the North Dakota Fighting Sioux.
North Dakota a perennial powerhouse in US college hockey went into Kalamazoo and took both of the weekends highly anticipated match ups, claiming a 3-2 victory on Friday night and matching that effort on Saturday with another 3-2 victory on the road.
Slubowski , a former PRMHA graduate faced 21 shots in Fridays game surrendering goals in each period on the way to the home ice loss.
He also started Saturday's return match up, however North Dakota once again found the net three times, with Slubowski facing 10 shots over 27 minutes of play.
That surge of North Dakota offence resulted in head coach Andy Murray sending Lukas Hafner into the nets in a relief role for the remainder of the game.
The twin losses were the only cloud on the week for the Rupertite, on December 2nd Slubowski had been named NCHC player of the week for his work in Notre Dame's Shillelagh tournament of November.
