Slubowski splits duties as WMU Broncos sweep in NCAA weekend action

Prince Rupert's Frank Slubowski returned to the Western Michigan University nets on Saturday night, leading the Broncos to a 3-2 victory over the Miami of Ohio RedHawks. The win was the second of a weekend sweep by the Bronco's over the RedHawks, a team that was ranked at Number 13 in NCAA hockey prior to the weekend action.

Slubowski a WMU Junior made 36 saves on the night, including 16 of them on Redhawk power plays.

Saturday night was the first time that Slubowski had started a game for the Broncos since late December, as head coach Andy Murray had been running with the hot hand of Lukas Hafner, who had shined during the December Great Lakes Invitational Tournament.

Murray had turned to Slubowski on Friday night midway through the first of the two game series, a move which proved to be beneficial to the Broncos as he backstopped the team to a 5-4 victory. That win also appears to have set the stage for his Saturday night return to starting duties.

The Broncos take on conference rival and number two ranked St. Cloud State next weekend as they travel to Minnesota for a two game series Friday and Saturday nights.
