Recreation Department looks to fill some of the void during Education dispute

With public schools closed during the ongoing labour dispute between the BCTF and the Provincial Government, parents are looking for options for their children to keep them occupied during the down time from education.

Prince Rupert Civic Centre has a number of activities getting underway today, as the City's Recreation Department looks to offer up an alternative for parents during this first week of the school disruption.

A Sports Camp is set for those ages 7-9 and 10 to 12 from September 3 to 5 from 9 AM to 5 PM,  featuring two hockey sessions, basketball, volleyball, badminton, soccer and movies.  Cost of the three days is 120 days.

Next week they offer up a five day camp, with much of the same lineup running from 9 AM to 5 PM, the cost of the full week sessions is 200 dollars.

Arts and Crafts are also on the agenda at the Rupert Bear Day Camp, with activities planned for children ages 5-8 and 8 to 11 years.

The first camp gets underway today at 9 AM with the final session of the week on Friday, the Camp runs until 5 PM at a cost of 120 dollars for the three days.

Like the Sports Camp, the Rupert Bear Day Camp will also offer a full week of Arts, Crafts, Adventure and Recreational Activities it starts again on September 8th and continues until September 12th from 9 to 5, the cost is 200 dollars.
