Bursaries awarded to NWCC students at Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art

A number of northwest British Columbia students have some extra money on hand to pursue their studies, with six NWCC students named to the list of Freda Diesing Bursary Award recipients in late October.

The award program provided thirty thousand dollars in bursaries this year, awarded to the six who are pursuing certificates and diplomas in the First Nations Arts Program at Northwest Community College.

The Awards program was first introduced in 2013 and has been well received by both students, faculty and the larger Northwest Community College community, offering as it does an opportunity for students of the program to continue on with their studies in the highly acclaimed First Nations Arts program.

The four First year recipients for 2014 are:

Alfred Davidson III, a Haida from Masset
Martin Wawechter, a member of the Gitxsan from Gitanmaax
Yvonne Starr, also of the Gitxsan Nation, from Kispiox and Vancouver
Vanessa Morgan, from the Nisga'a Nation, by way of Gingolx and Gitwinksihklw

Second year award recipients are:

Earl Edmund, of the Carrier Nation fro Ulkatcho
Kristen Mckay, a Tsimshian from Lax Kw'alaams
