Canada Games Torch to make Rupert appearance today, before major Terrace event Saturday
The 2015 Canada Winter Games Torch Relay Celebration won't quite make it to the North Coast, but the torch itself will.
With the iconic torch set for two planned stop overs at Charles Hays Secondary and Prince Rupert Middle School this morning.
The Torch and Canada Winter Games Mascot Nanguz will be making appearances at the two schools in the City, as part of a tour of the Northwest to share the word of the Canada Winter Games in Prince George in February.
Following the North Coast visit, the Torch heads to Kitimat and then on to Terrace for this weekend's major Canada Games Torch Relay event
Today's visit follows the following schedule:
Charles Hays Secondary School from 10 AM to 11:35 AM
Prince Rupert Middle School from 11:45 AM to 12:20PM
Saturday's Torch Relay Celebrations will run in conduction with a number of festivities planned as part of Terrace's annual Festival of Lights, with the Torch Relay taking the theme of "illuminating the North"
Events get under way at 2 PM and continue on through until 8 PM, with the torch relay itself running from Kitsumkalum through the city ending up at George Little Park.
Terrace was selected as part of the Regional Torch Celebration Challenge, winning out over a number of northern BC communities, taking part in a head to head competition for the chance to host one of the regional events.
The Canada Winter Games are set to take place in Prince George from February 13th to March 1st.
