Northern Health awards Imagine Grants to 10 Prince Rupert projects
Prince Rupert has grabbed a share of Northern Health Imagine Legacy Grants, as ten projects in the area have been awarded funding for a range of proposals put forward this fall.
Local applications provided for a number of heath orientated initiatives focusing on fitness, Awareness and Information and programs focused on opportunities in the field of seniors and aging.
School District 52 found the most success of the local applicants, as proposals featuring initiatives with four projects for area schools were awarded funding for this year.
Conrad Elementary School – Water Bottle Stations (Population Health)
Roosevelt Park Elementary School – Dance to Fitness (Population Health)
Prince Rupert Middle School – Activities for Better Learning (Population Health) Prince Rupert
Pacific Coast School – Fit for Life (Population Health)
Prince Rupert's Friendship House Association was awarded two grants for a pair of programs featuring awareness issues for the region.
Friendship House Association of Prince Rupert – HIV Prevention and Awareness through participation (Regional Blood Borne Pathogens/HIV Prevention)
Prince Rupert Friendship House Association – Basic needs for healthy choices (Cardiac & Cerebrovascular Services/HEAL for Your Heart and Population Health)
Two programs from the Prince Rupert Salvation Army were awarded funding for their work to Help Heal the Heart
The Salvation Army – Healthy Alternatives for Daily Living (Cardiac & Cerebrovascular Services/HEAL for Your Heart)
The Salvation Army – Prevention, Awareness and Support for Cardiovascular Disease (Cardiac & Cerebrovascular Services/HEAL for Your Heart)
The City of Prince Rupert was also recognized for their work on aging issues:
Jim Ciccone Civic Center (City of Prince Rupert) – Aging Well (Cardiac & Cerebrovascular Services/HEAL for Your Heart)
While the local detachment of the RCMP had their proposal for head protection finding success with the Northern Health Selection panel.

The successful Prince Rupert initiatives were just ten of thirty six awards granted to Northwestern British Columbia, you can review the full list of all of the successful programs here.
The Imagine Legacy Grants are designed to provide a focus on physical activity and at least one other key health promotion goal, with the program looking to have the initiatives continue on after the initial funding has come to an end.
