The Prince Rupert Port Authority has put down some cash to put down some padding at Prince Rupert's Growing Space, with a 9,000 dollar donation going towards replacement of play mats at the popular children's Centre in the Ocean Centre mall.
The Growing Space Society sees more than 200 visitors a week drop into the centre to take advantage of the indoor playground, crafting area and wide range of toys and books available for children.
Elizabeth Melanson, President of the Prince Rupert Growing Space Society noted the generosity of the Port Authority's financial assistance and how it will be put to work, as well as how other groups in the city offer their support to the Ocean Centre Facility.
“We were able to replace the mats we purchased more than seven years ago with more durable, safer flooring that will meet the needs of children in the community for many years to come,”... “For many families and daycare providers in Prince Rupert, having a dedicated indoor space to escape the weather and get some extended physical activity is a blessing. And it really wouldn’t be possible without the generosity and support of community groups and businesses like the Port.”
The donation to the Society came from the Prince Rupert Port Authority's Community Investment Fund and marks the latest contribution to community groups around the North Coast.
“The fact that Prince Rupert has a volunteer society like the Growing Space is a testament to the importance placed on early childhood education and development in this community,” ... “The work of this thriving family centre has supported childhood growth and maturity for several generations. It is a joy to sustain that legacy through our Community Investment Fund.” -- Don Krusel, President and CEO of the Prince Rupert Port Authority.
The Growing space currently has a membership base of 80 individuals, families and day care services, with month passes available for a nominal charge. You can learn more about what they have to offer from their Facebook page.
