A project long in the planning is now underway a few kilometres south of Lax Kw'alaams, with workers having launched their first week of work on the community recycling/waste transfer station.
Terrace based Progressive Ventures Construction is in charge of the project, with job postings having been listed at the band office prior to the project launch.
Crews and Trucks have been using Tuck Road for the majority of each day this week and will continue to do so 7 days a week, through the next five weeks with the exception of the Christmas Break between Christmas and January 4th.
The Lax Kw'alaams Band has advised residents using the ferry to allow for a bit of extra time for their travels as a result of the heavy traffic.
The completion date for the project is expected to be sometime in Mid March.
More on the work can be found from this community announcement from the Band Council.
Once operational in April, residents of Lax Kw'alaams will have a recycling program introduced to the community to divert recyclables to the Skeena Queen Charlotte Regional District recycling centre in Prince Rupert, while solid waste from the community will be transferred by barge at a regular frequency to the City of Prince Rupert landfill for disposal.
The background on the infrastructure project was outlined to the community back in July
