The North Coast is but one month away from a burst of creativity with the final planning for Creative Jam 2016 in motion and registration now under way for the three days of creative workshops covering a range of activities.
Hosted by the Prince Rupert Community Arts Council, Creative Jam takes place from March 4-6 featuring a weekend of workshops in five areas: Improv Music, Creative Script Writing, Visual Arts, 3 different Fabric Art Disciplines and Photography.
Beyond the Blues -- hosted by Peter Witherly will provide a look at the history, styles and approaches to jazz improvisation, participants will learn the basics of a range of jazz presentations, jamming along the way as they pick up the key elements of the music.
David Quast is hosting the Creative Script Writing workshop -- It will offer participants the chance to learn the art of writing for the stage, radio or podcast. Focusing on play mechanics, dramatic structure, as well as character development and dialogue. Through the weekend participants will create a short play to be performed in class on the final day.
Photography is the topic of Mike Ambach's workshop -- The Prince Rupert based photographer will explore some of the themes and concepts that can be created from both digital and film.
Pam Mahoney will bring quilting to life for participants as part of the Quilting Workshop -- Over the three days participants will learn how to utilize colour and size of fabric and how to expand on ideas to develop full projects.
Working with Pastels will be the focus of the Visual Arts workshop -- Terrace based artist Gail Turner Sears will explore the elements that she combines in creating her works, making use of natural settings and how to transfer those backdrops into art.
The use of Fabrics makes up the final workshop on the list for the weekend, with Mavis Glencross exploring the world of Fabric Dying, covering the basics of colour and colour mixing. Lizette Croft will host a look at how to Create Multiple Layers on Fabric or Cloth, her course requires participants to know the basics to fabric dying.
