SD52 will have a little less money to work with after a Ministery of Education audit reduced funding by 220,000 dollars |
As part of the review of the May 10th School District 52 meeting, Board officials noted that in February the Ministry had sent and audit team to the North Coast to review the District's enrolment of students with special needs, Aboriginal students, career education and enrolment of secondary students including alternative education students.
From those findings, Ministry officials determined that the District had received a higher level of funding than was appropriate and have advised the District of the change to that funding level.
As a result of the audit, the School District is now reviewing its enrolment practices for alternate education and other areas to ensure that Ministry requirements are met in the future.
There was some positive news to come out of the audit however, SD52's practices for Aboriginal education, special education and career education were commended by the Ministry.
