New Fire Truck for Lax Kw'alaams

Chief James Henry and the nineteen volunteers of the Lax Kw'alaams Fire Department are working with state of the art fire fighting equipment now, as the community takes possession of a new Fire Truck.

Funded through Aboriginal Affairs Canada, the $380,000 fire fighting apparatus will replace the previous pumper truck which had started to develop rust in the reservoir holding system.

The discovery of the rust issue came after an inspection by Chief Henry during a training session, from that point the Lax Kw'alaams government turned to Fort Garry Truck a Winnipeg based fire fighting supply company to provide the new MXV model for the community Fire Department.

Training on the new vehicle will be provided by Fort Garry staff to help the members of the volunteer department become more familiar with what it has to offer. Some background on the capability of the truck can be found from the item below from the Fort Garry Facebook page.

The new truck is just the start of some ambitious plans for the community when it comes to their Fire Department, the will be looking for new members to join the volunteer department and the community is investigating the possibility of a new fire hall to accommodate the truck and other equipment as well as to provide training and office space for the department.

You can learn more about the purchase from the Lax Kw'alaams newsletter.
