Deadline nearing for comment period on Sea Breeze Mount Hays Wind Power Proposal
A project that was first mentioned in 2012 is back in the spotlight this month as the deadline for a comment period hosted by the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources approaches.
December 8th is the final day to submit comments to the Ministry related to the Sea Breeze Mount Hays Wind proposal.
The land management plan for the project can be reviewed here.
The document outlines how Sea Breeze plans to approach its review of the suitability of the site for a wind power development, though the timing of any actual construction would depend on market signals from the BC Government and/or BC Hydro.
There are seven phases to any potential project, from the permitting process through to construction and commissioning and Operations, which Sea Breeze suggest would typically last for 20 years.
The site to be examined for potential use is on the south side of Mount Hays running parallel to Highway 16 and along the Ridley Island Access road.
Consultations with area First Nations and local governments would be featured among some of the steps ahead, should the company receive permission to move forward with the investigative nature of the project.
Negotiations with any potential financial partners for the Project would also move into a more active phase should Sea Breeze receive approval for its review of site suitability.
More on the application process can be reviewed here. Those that may have comments or concerns related to the application can submit their comments to the process by using this form.
The Mount Hays proposal is one of a number of wind energy projects that the Vancouver based company has under consideration, you can learn more about the various plans from Sea Breeze from their website here.
The proposed development has been in a bit of a hibernation phase since it was first outlined in 2012, the most recent review of their plans can be found below.
