Hopeful CSI's of the Northwest to benefit from new NWCC agreement
Students on the North Coast with hopes of becoming the next Gil Grissom, have an easier path towards a career in Forensics now, with Northwest Community College signing a transfer agreement with BCIT.
The opportunity to expand on their Criminology studies at NWCC was announced last week, with the details outlined as to how students that are enrolled in the Criminology program in the Northwest will be able to access the third year of the Bachelor of Technology in Forensic Sciences at BCIT.
The criteria towards acceptance at BCIT however will require a bit of work for students during their time as part of the Criminology program at NWCC:
Students who successfully complete the Criminology Diploma at NWCC, including the appropriate elective courses in Biology and Chemistry, and who obtain a minimum GPA of 2.0 prior to entering BCIT, are eligible to transfer into the third year of the Bachelor of Technology in Forensic Sciences at BCIT.
Students who complete the Criminology Diploma at NWCC and take the appropriate bridging courses (GIS and Computer Database Applications), and who obtain a minimum GPA of 2.0 prior to entering BCIT are eligible to transfer into the third year of the Bachelor of Technology in Crime and Intelligence Analysis.
The partnership agreement with BCIT is part of an ongoing process for Northwest Community College which recently signed a more expansive agreement with the University of Victoria.
The Criminology program is offered at the Terrace Campus of NWCC, you can learn more about what it has to offer here.
The partnerships allow students to stay in the North for their first two years of study, something which can help reduce the cost of studies for families in the region and helps to increase the numbers for programs that are offered at the local community college level.
More background to the transfer agreement with BCIT can be reviewed here.
