Approaching weather system results in change to Northern Expedition's weekend schedule
The travel plans for those heading to Prince Rupert from Haida Gwaii for the All Native Basketball Tournament will see a few changes, as BC Ferries makes a schedule change as a result of an approaching Pacific weather system.
As we outlined earlier today, Environment Canada has issued a Wind Warning for Haida Gwaii and the North Coast, with some strong winds set to make landfall in the evening and overnight hours.
As a result, Saturday's 3:30 PM sailing of the Northern Expedition from Prince Rupert to Skidegate has been cancelled.
Their revised schedule has BC Ferries looking for a 6 AM departure on Sunday.
The Northern Expedition is expected to arrive at Skidegate at noon, with the return journey to Rupert is pushed back with the vessel returning to the North Coast at 4 PM on Sunday.
The Modified Schedule into Monday can be reviewed below: (click to enlarge)
Should the weather system stall over the Hecate Strait, further delays may be possible.
You can find updated information on the Prince Rupert to Skidegate run from the BC Ferries Service Notices page or through their twitter feed.
You can review both the Environment Canada Warning, as well as the Marine Forecast from our blog item here.
