Much of Highway 97 is closed, as are stretches of the Trans Canada Highway and Highway 20 as Wild fire rage across the Interior portion of British Columbia into the weekend |
An emergency situation has evolved throughout the Interior portion of British Columbia through the day today, as a number of wildfires have raced through tinder dry areas from Quesnel to Ashcroft.
The fires have resulted in mass evacuations of a number of communities, while others remain on alert for possible evacuation.
Much of the large scale concern at the moment is focused on the Cache Creek/Ashcroft region of Highway 97 South, where a number of homes have been reported as destroyed, while residents have been directed to emergency relocation centres in Kamloops.
To the north another fire burning near Williams Lake has ringed the city's airport region, leaving municipal officials to keep watch as to where the fire may transit next.
The condition have resulted in a number of road closures for portions of Highways 97, 20 and the Trans Canada Highway, making for the need for extensive re-routing for those travelling the province's roadways this weekend trying to transit from South to North.
The nature of the fire emergency has seen CBC 1 in British Columbia provide for special programming out of their Kelowna studio, they offered up dates for those in the region and beyond up until 8:30 on Friday evening.
Further updates from that radio service, as they are made available can be found here.
