Two prominent names of from the recent years of the All Native Basketball Tournament are the featured focus for a new short documentary film currently streaming on YouTube.
Kitkatla's and Prince Rupert's Jacob Thom and Luke Robinson of the Ahousat First Nation make for part of the narrative which explores the themes of Prince Rupert's February tournament.
The film follows the journey of Thom and Robinson with the film Follow the Rock providing just a short glimpse into not only the tempo of the basketball, but the culture and pride that All Native week brings to the community.
"Some people are singers, some people are dancers, Hunters, artists and culture keepers. I am a basketball player. Fishermen follow seasons, hunters follow the game trail, singers follow their voice. I am a baksetball player, I follow the rock (and) every year though I follow it back home to the All Native Basketball Tournament" -- Jacob Thom in the intro piece for the Documentary Follow the Rock
Created, directed and produced by Jamaine Campbell, the film explores how basketball has become part of the culture of communities around British Columbia and the importance that a trip to the annual tournament is for not only the players but the spectators that come along with them.
