Blog Watching: Week ending October 15, 2017

As the post Thanksgiving weekend period got under way this week, most in the city were still talking about a rather rare experience in Prince Rupert of an armed robbery at a local bank.

With many out of town over the weekend, an update from Saturday from the RCMP which outlined some more background to the October 6th robbery generated significant interest on the blog.

Other items that caught the attention of readers over the last seven days included the pending arrival of a new optician in town, with work continuing on the new office for Prince Rupert Optometry found on 3rd Avenue West.

An update from AltaGas on the progress of their shipment terminal found at Ridley Terminals also was of much interest to readers.

The Provincial government made use of their week away from the legislature to distribute a number of funding grants to communities across the province including Northwestern BC.

And a story from Friday also found a strong audience on the week, with our notes as to how SD52 views a proposed name change from Northwest community college proved popular in the short period of time that it's been posted to the blog.

The top story of the last seven days however keeps the focus on crime, with the Bank of Montreal Robbery earlier this month still generating a fair bit of interest.

AltaGas hails progress of construction at Ridley Terminal Export site --   There was quite a bit of interest this week on our look at the latest update from the Alberta based energy company AltaGas, which delivered some background info for investors on their Prince Rupert plans  (posted October 12, 2017)

Province distributes infrastructure funding to 30 communities across BC --   It was a busy week for cheque writers at the Province of British Columbia as the new NDP government outlined some of their funding initiatives under the rural dividend program.  Later in the week, a second round of funding would deliver 150,000 dollars to the City of Prince Rupert. The Province also had some welcome news for Vancouver residents awaiting replacement schools, though residents of the North Coast hoping for some news on the PRMS replacement plan would find the week disappointing. (posted October 11, 2017)

SD52 will oppose proposed name change for Northwest Community College --  Education also figured prominently for the blog late into Friday, with our notes from the October SD52 board meeting offering somewhat of a setback for Northwest Community College's hopes for a smooth path for a name change for the regional post secondary educational institution  (posted October 13, 2017)
