Sr Boys Rainmakers hold fast at Number Three in BC with release of latest AA rankings
Some success over high profile competition from the Lower Mainland has helped keep the Charles Hays Senior Boys Rainmakers at some elevated levels this week, as the first rankings of the New Year have been by the BC High School Basketball Association.
The rankings which were released yesterday hold the Rainmakers in Third place overall in the province with Mill Bay and a Kamloops school just ahead of them in the AA level listings.
A good way to keep up to date on developments across the competitive BC High School Basketball scene is through Howard Tsumura's Varsity Letters blog, which provides a comprehensive look at all sports at the High School and University level in the province.
The Rainmakers return to regional action this weekend following a couple of strong efforts last week against the visiting GW Graham Grizzlies a top ten ranked AAA squad from the Fraser Valley.
The Makers' took charge of a twin bill on January 5 and 6, topping the visitors 79-58 and 71-64, the competitive push back from the Grizzlies provided a good test for the Rainmakers as they head into the heart of the Northwest high school basketball season and the quest for a return to Provincials in March.
The Junior Boys celebrated the start of 2018 in strong fashion as well, with a third place finish at the Condor Classic in Prince George. The popular tournament attracts some top flight competition from Northern British Columbia as well as the rest of the province.
Rainmaker Fans can check out more hoops action this weekend as Both the Senior Boys and Junior Boys are at home on the CHSS court.
Teams from Coast Tsimshian Academy, Centennial Christian and Hazelton will be in town for a Saturday playdate against both the Junior and Senior Boys Rainmakers.
The Schedule has yet to be posted for this weekend's action, when it has been released we'll add it to this article.
Saturday's work will serve as preparation for the Senior Boys who are off to Victoria from January 18 to 20, where they take part in a tournament at Belmont Secondary, they will also take on Nanaimo in an exhibition game on the Thursday prior to the tournament, that match up will be a bit of a Rainmaker reunion, as the Nanaimo squad is coached by Jacob Thom.
The Senior Girls are also coming off a winning streak in early January, claiming a second place finish in Vanderhoof, they head out on the road again this weekend with a trek to Smithers with games set for Friday and Saturday in the Bulkley Valley.
The Junior Girls have the weekend off, they next see action next weekend when they have a trip to Prince George on the schedule
