The North Coast's music fans have a chance to take in the unique stylings of a three time nominated Juno Award singer songwriter tonight, as The Alysha Brilla Trio takes to the stage at the city's Lester Centre of the Arts.

Her most recent work, Rooted was just nominated for the Canadian music award, with the song finding its way into the final consideration in the Adult Contemporary category for the March 25th Awards ceremony.

With musical influences that are infused with African, Indian and Canadian experiences, her sound has been compared by some observers as that which channels Bob Marley and Amy Winehouse to name a few of the strains that are heard.

The Indian-Tanzanian Canadian artist is gaining increased attention for not only her music, but her social activism on a range of issues, with her music providing for the forum to effect change.

Change is also something she's seeking to bring to the recording industry, as Brilla looks to bring more women into the field, noting that there are still some barriers for women to break down in the music industry.
