Alta Gas, the Alberta based energy company that is building an export terminal on Ridley Island shared a status report this week as part of its 2017 Fourth quarter and year end results report released on Thursday.
The report which examined a range of items related to the energy company's business, put some of its focus on the progress of the Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal, highlighting how the project is on track towards going into service early in 2019.
Construction of RIPET commenced during the second quarter of 2017 and is proceeding pursuant to an agreement with RILE LP. AltaGas is using its self-perform model that has been successfully used to execute its other projects on time and on budget. Crews have completed work on the concrete outer wall for the propane tank and the inner steel tank roof was installed at the end of January 2018.
The balance of plant fabrication and civil work is on track and the first modules are scheduled to be installed in the first quarter of 2018. All long-lead equipment has been ordered with delivery schedules aligned with the construction schedule. RIPET is expected to be in-service in the first quarter of 2019.
The energy company also noted that work continues to add to further capacity commitments for product to be shipped out of the Prince Rupert terminal, with discussions currently underway with Astomos Energy and a number of other third party groups.
AltaGas LPG and Astomos Energy Corporation have entered into a multi-year agreement for the purchase of at least 50 percent of the 1.2 million tonnes per annum of propane expected to be available to be shipped from RIPET each year. Commercial discussions with Astomos and several third party off-takers for further capacity commitments are proceeding.

As the storage facility begins to take shape, AltaGas is now turning its attention towards staffing levels for the Ridley Island terminal.
The company has introduced it's Operator Training program, providing the following video as part of its recruitment campaign for staffing requirements at the facility, the local training in Prince Rupert will be provided by Northwest Community College.
AltaGas will be hosting an information session for the program in Prince Rupert on Monday at NWCC, that event takes place from 6 to 8 PM.
Tuesday, the company will hold Interviews for admission to the training program, the interviews which take place from Noon until 8 P, will be scheduled as part of Monday's information session.
Similar sessions are planned for the Terrace area taking place on March 7 and 8.
In February, AltaGas hosted information and interview sessions for members of Metlakatla and Lax Kw'alaams.
Beyond the plans for the 14 operator positions at the terminal, once it is operational the total workforce for the facility is expected to number up to 50 permanent workers, with a range of
duties and positions to be available.
