Blog watching: Week ending April 15, 2018
Some extreme weather played a role in two stories that had strong readership for our list of five this week, with a Marine Rescue off of Triple Island, along with a fast moving storm on Tuesday which roared through Prince Rupert leaving a trail of damage both of interest to readers.
A search through the week for a missing Terrace man also attracted a large volume of readers, with members of the Prince Rupert and Terrace detachments of the RCMP, along with Search and Rescue members from the Northwest all looking in the Khyex River area for Terrace resident David Kim.
Other items to find their way into the top five for the week, included our notes on the involvement of Prince Rupert residents in Jersey Day for Humboldt, Saskatchewan, with many in the community wearing a hockey sweater in support of that community as it continues to grieve the loss of sixteen members of their Junior hockey team and care for the survivors of the horrific bus crash of earlier this month
And some news from the Prince Rupert Golf Course found its way into our top five listings, with our look at Peter Drake, the new groundskeeper at the course finding a large audience.
The top story however, examined the sinking of the Western Commander in waters off Triple Island and the response from the range of rescue units that was dispatched to the scene.
Coast Guard rescue three off fishing vessel sinking near Triple Island; transport one other to hospital -- Members of a number of Coast Guard vessels and a team from Prince Rupert's Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 64 responded to a distress call off Triple Island this week, an emergency which saw three crew members of the Western Commander returned to Prince Rupert aboard a Coast Guard vessel, but tragically left one man deceased having suffered from a heart attack.
