The main work of the three day conference is underway today with the opening of the conference and official greetings taking place at the Lester Centre of the Arts.
Chief Harold Leighton, Mayor John Helin and Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain were on the agenda for this mornings opening session, all part of the Welcome ceremony that was to get the day and the event underway.
The remainder of the first full day for the conference is given over to a number of information sessions, workshops and discussion periods on a range of topics focused on the Aboriginal economy, Port expansion plans, Keynote speakers and networking opportunities.
Delegates are also urged to cross Wantage Road and head over to the Civic Centre where a Trade Show is taking place through the conference, where business opportunities, potential partnership and job opportunities for the community are all part of the options to explore inside the Russel Gamble Gymnasium
Thursday's events include more opportunities to network through the Trade Show opportunities in the Civic Centre, as well as a chance to take the Golf Course, in a Charity Golf tournament being held at the Prince Rupert Centennial Golf Course starting at 8:30 AM.
Conference organizer Geoff Greenwell, outlined some of the areas of note that the conference will address through until Thursday.
"The National Aboriginal Business Opportunities Conference (NABOC) is unique in design with a focus on creating a comfortable and supportive venue for collaboration between Aboriginal and Private Sector business groups. The plenary sessions will update everyone on the various major projects in the region and also showcase successful private sector / Aboriginal business ventures as case studies and examples for others to follow.
We have assembled a fantastic line-up of presenters for the 2018 NABOC Prince Rupert event which has a major focus on projects in the port, training and employment opportunities, business partnerships with regional First Nations and learning how to reach international markets"
