Port Edward received the first look at some expansion plans from Ridley Terminals earlier this month and tonight its the turn for Prince Rupert's elected officials to check out RTI's blue prints, with one of the region's largest employers scheduled to appear at tonight's Council Session.
The overview of Operations and preview of RTI's dock expansion plans will come from a trio of Ridley representatives, with Marc Dulude, President at RTI, Senior Manager Dennis Blake and Michelle Bryant-Gravelle Corporate Affairs Manager at RTI all scheduled to appear at tonight's Council session, which this month has a 5:15 start at City Hall.
The project which was also previewed at the Ridley Terminals Annual Public Meeting earlier this month has already seen some initial engineering and project description work take place,
The proposed second terminal berth would allow for increased shipment volumes and turn around times for vessels that call on the facility.
As Ridley Terminals noted in their annual report this year, coal volumes through Ridley have bounced back significantly over the last year, as well, the Alberta energy company AltaGas is set to start using the terminal berthing facilities for the shipment of Liquified Petroleum Gas once it goes into operation in 2019.
It's the prospect of those increased volumes at RTI that have officials making their plans for expansion of the shipping berth at the facility.
