Lakelse lake and other popular spots across the Northwest will be popular places this week as summer makes its full presence known this week in the Inland areas of the North Coast. And with the soaring temperatures Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for the communities of Kitimat and Terrace today.
An extended stretch of very warm weather will see temperatures reach the 30 degree mark through the week, with the potential for even higher temperatures into the weekend.
The forecast temperatures are five to ten degrees higher than the averages for the region found in late July, however it's not expected that any temperature records will be broken.
The Weather advisory does call for residents to take precautions for the extended period of hot weather, with reminders to stay hydrated and seek air conditioned facilities for at least some of the day.
Smithers as well is in store for some hot weather, but those temperatures will not be extreme for this time of the year for the Bulkley Valley.
Prince Rupert and Coastal areas of the North Coast, as well as Haida Gwaii will also find sunshine in the forecast for much of the week, though the heat levels will not reach the extreme levels expected in the Inland areas of the Northwest.
Prince Rupert's highs will be from 19-20 degrees for much of the week, while Haida Gwaii will see temperature ranges from 18-22 degrees through the week.
