An 850 kilometre journey along highway sixteen from Prince George to Prince Rupert is underway (along with a few side trips along the way), with participants in the 2018 Cops for Cancer ride leaving Prince George on Friday.
With the first few days of their travels proving to be challenging as they run into some unpredictable weather along the way, the travels eased by the welcome from the first few communities along their six day trek to the North Coast.
The Sunday update made note of the conditions that riders were facing, with sleet, snow and rain offer up some challenges to the riders.
As they move further west things should improve, as long as Environment Canada cooperates, the most recent forecast calling for Sunny skies through the week as they head for the homestretch and the Thursday arrival in Prince Rupert.
The riders are expected to arrive in Prince Rupert at 5:30 on Thursday evening with a Welcoming event to take place at the Crest Hotel on First Avenue West.
The 2018 edition of the Tour de North will come to an end later that evening with a Fundraising Dinner at the Seal Cove Neighbourhood Pub with that event scheduled for 7:30 PM
Two current members of the Prince Rupert Detachment of the RCMP Stephanie Wainman and Devon Gerrits are taking part in this years ride. They join riders and support members from across the Northwest, Northeast, Cariboo and Northern regions in this years journey.
Also riding with a Prince Rupert connection is Bob Killbery, a retired member of the RCMP, Jen Collins who is currently posted to the Prince George detachment joins her father on the ride, she previously participated as a member of the Prince Rupert detachment in past events.

So far, the Tour de North participants have reached just over 53% of their fundraising goal of 300,000 dollars.
Residents across the Highway 16 corridor will have an opportunity to help them move towards at events planned for Houston, Smithers Moricteown, Kispiox, New Hazelton, Gitsegukla, Gitwangak, Terrace and Kitsumkalum.
