Rhinos stampede over Roos to remain undefeated in CIHL play this year
The Prince Rupert Rampage came out of the gate fast and scored often Saturday night, claiming their fourth consecutive victory along the way with a 9-2 decision over the visiting Quesnel Kangaroos.
The impressive effort on home ice keeping the team undefeated as they head into week five play this weekend.
The opening flurry of goal scoring came in the middle of the first period Saturday, as the Rampage jumped to a four goal lead in the space of three minutes, paced by a pair of goals from Judd Repole, along with singles for Jacob Santurbano and Marcus Atchison.
The Kangroos would gain one back in the last minute of period number one to send the teams to the dressing room with the Rampage holding the 4-1 lead.
Period two delivered more of a defensive battle with but one goal recorded in the middle frame that a Cole Atchison marker at the fourteen minute mark.
The goals were more plentiful for the home side in period three, as the Rampage picked up four more markers, with Santurbano once again on the score sheet scoring twice and completing his hat trick with a power play marker at the fifteen minute mark of the third.
Also finding the range in the Quesnel end were Tyler Ostrom and Jared Meers who brought the Rampage scoring machine to a close in the final minute of play of period three.
The Kangaroos secured one final marker of their own thirty seconds later, but it was but one puck in a bucket of Rampage goals on the night, with the Rhinos securing win number four on the season.
The large election night crowd in the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre found things heating up penalty wise in the middle and final periods, with Quesnel's frustrations getting the better of them as the Rampage scoring increased.
By games end the referees had put in a busy night of trying to keep a lid on things on the ice, assessing Quesnel with 30 minutes of penalty time on 11 penalties, while the Rampage served 12 minutes in the penalty box on 6 infractions.
David Wood collected the win for the Rampage turning aside 20 of the 22 shots he faced, Reign Turley faced the Rampage for all sixty minutes of play, making 20 saves on the 29 shots he faced on the night.

The offensive push for the Rampage was beneficial for three members of the Rhino roster, propelling Jared Meers to fourth spot overall in league scoring with 10 points on five goals and five assists.
Judd Repole also sits in the fourth spot tied with the Rampage captain with 3 goals and 7 assists after four games so far this year.
Cole Atchison rounds out the list of Rampage players on the top ten list, his five goals and four assists placing him in eighth spot after this weekends play.
The Rampage hit the road this coming weekend, with a pair of games on the schedule a Friday night matchup with the River Kings at the Terrace Ice Arena.
Saturday night, they take on the Kitimat Ice Demons at the Tamitik Arena.
