Prince Rupert ambulance goes into the ditch; as Mid morning weather made for poor driving conditions on Highway 16
Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue and RCMP responded to a mid morning incident on Highway 16, responding to a call for assistance from an eastbound BC Ambulance which had gone off the road between Prince Rupert and Port Edward, leaving two members of the ambulance service injured as a result.
The call came in around 10AM and road conditions were reported as poor along the highway as a mid morning hail, snow and rain storm combined to leave the road covered in slush, with a string of road incidents reported along the same stretch of highway this morning.
Photos have been appearing on social media accounts through the day, highlighting the state of the highway during the burst of weather.
There has been no update on the nature of the injuries to the two members of the ambulance service.
The latest image from the Port Edward turnoff shows that roads are bare but wet, with slush still found along the median and on the side of the highway just before the Galloway Rapids Bridge.
