Two Prince Rupert residents who have become legendary in the region for the care they provide for animals on the North Coast will be honoured by the British Columbia Government and BC Community Awards Foundation next month.
Nancy and Gunther Golinia who have operated the Prince Rupert Wildlife Rehab Shelter for over thirty years were among the list of 25 British Columbians to be selected for honours for 2019.
The Golinia's are joined by twenty four other recipients selected by an independent panel, the 2019 recipients were announced by the Premier's office and the BC Achievement Community Award, marking the 16th time that the honours have been awarded.

The Golinia's and the rest of the 2019 recipients will be recognized at a formal presentation at Government House in Victoria on May 1st. All of those to be honoured that day will receive a certificate of appreciation and a medallion designed by BC artist Robert Davidson, OC.
One other resident of the Northwest will be honoured at the May event, with Janet Johnston of Stewart to be recognized for her range of volunteer work in the Stewart region.

The work of the Golinia's has so captured the attention of the community that they are frequently receiving donations from individuals and organizations around the region to help them with their work in Prince Rupert.
The Golinia's bear the cost of the operations through their own finances, assisted by those community donations, with a number of residents from the region also volunteering of their time to help keep the shelter operating
