It was a late Monday evening reminder for Haida Gwaii that the seismic fault lines are still shimmying as a 4.0 magnitude quake was recorded  139 km south of Masset, just off the west coast of the Island.

The Seismic event which had a depth of 10 kilometres was noted at 9:51 PM, it was noted in a number of communities in the immediate area, but there were no reports of damage and no Tsunami warning was generated by the event.

The Monday evening temblor is the first significant event of the New Year for Haida Gwaii,  but does mark the latest in a string of similar sized earth movements that have travelled up and down the fault line, you can review some of the previous events from our archive page here.
