Coast Mountain College campuses to remain open, with changes in motion for social distancing
The Northwest campus locations for Coast Mountain College will remain open to the public for now, with the educational institution providing for a range of notes from it's Monday update this morning, highlighting some of the measures they are taking in the ever evolving COVID-19 situation.
In their update, the college notes that all public colleges in the province, including Coast Mountain remains open and classes are continuing as per their normal schedule, with the College working with provincial officials to examine alternative delivery methods beyond the usual face-to-face classes.
"This step is being taken out of an abundance of caution and a desire of the College to do its part in supporting social distancing protocols. At this point the risk of infection remains low and there is no direction from the Provincial Health Officer to close."
Coast Mountain hopes to have alternative plans confirmed by Friday, March 20th.
The move to remain open, comes as many of the larger Universities in the province have suspended on campus instruction, shifting the focus for their studies to online methods.
Other elements of the Coast Mountain College announcement focused on travel, with the college reminding staff, faculty and students who have returned from travel outside of Canada of the need to self-isolate for fourteen days, as has been advised by the Provincial Health Officer.
"It is very important to note that the Provincial Health Officer’s message is that the public health risk associated with COVID-19 remains low. As of March 16, 2020, Coast Mountain College still has no confirmed reports of presumptive COVID-19 infection."
The college also notes that they will continue to take their guidance from the Provincial Health Officer and the BC Centre of Disease Control.
The will also be reviewing all of the events that the College organizes through until the end of April, with events not considered mandatory to be cancelled or rescheduled.
They expect to make a decision on the May intake program sometime within the next ten days.
