Earth Day makes for a different kind of observance in these Days of Physical Distancing
Today is Earth Day, an event which normally brings celebrants together to call attention towards how we can join together in protection of the planet, today however one which will be for individual action, observed from home during these times of COVID-19
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the day once the domain of the environmental movement and now one which has resonance across the spectrum, with a renewed dedication towards efforts and measures to make the planet a better place to live.
Though, once you think about it, we don't really have an alternate plan should we fall short ...
As part of the observance for today, Municipalities across Canada (well Eastern Canada for the most part) have observed the event for the day with a video, something which makes for a dandy chance to brush up on your High School French.
So far however, there has been no follow up on the municipal observance theme, from the City of Prince Rupert and its range of information streams.
Something somewhat surprising considering Mayor Lee Brain's past attachment to environmental issues.
With Public events clearly off the schedule for the day, you can take part in a virtual celebration set for later today, which you can follow from the Facebook page created for today's observance.
You can also track the day's events through their Instagram page.
The International view of the day can be explored here.
