Micheal Gurney speaking to Prince Rupert Council on Arts Society themes at a November 2018 Council session |
With the pending May departure of current General Manager Michael Gurney, the Lester Centre of the Arts is in the process of now accepting applications for the highly coveted position at the facility which presents much of the community's artistic ventures in theatre and arts.
The surprising announcement of change for the city's Arts Centre comes less that two years after he took on his duties in August of 2018, with few details revealed as to what his future plans may be sa he steps away from the day to day running of the Lester Centre.
The background to the decision to vacate the position was posted to the Lester Centre Website in mid-March.
The start to the 2020 has been a rough year for the heart of the city's arts and culture scene, the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic has scuttled much of the arts calendar for the community and clearly will be delivering a reduced revenue flow for the City owned facility.
The Prince Rupert Performing Arts Centre Society launched the search for Mr. Gurney's replacement on March 31st, noting that the General Manager will be responsible for directing all aspects of the theatre’s operation.
There is no indication as to a closing date for the job application process, though they do note that the ideal starting date would be June 1st.
