Coast Mountain College offers Emergency Funds for International Students
International students enrolled with Coast Mountain College can now apply for the College's Grocery Store Gift Card program, which offers a 100 dollar gift card towards grocery purchases.
The program for International students follows one that had been provided earlier by Coast Mountain College, that program also offered Grocery cards, through a 40,000 dollar distribution in April.
The funding for the International program was provided by way of a $10,000 donation from the Coast Mountain Students' Union.
“This relief fund is for international students as there are very little relief benefits for them. Last month the CMTN Foundation made available $40,000 in grocery store gift cards to help students. This additional funding from the Coast Mountain Students’ Union is intended to help students who have not yet received this or other kinds of emergency relief from Coast Mountain College. "-- Christopher Blois, Chair, Coast Mountain Students’ Union.
International students did not qualify for the Canadian Emergency Student Benefit, so in order to help lessen the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on International Students, the Federal government loosened the regulations on employment.
The government recently removed the 20 hour work week restriction that International students were governed under.
Many Prince Rupert businesses and services have taken advantage of the willing pool of workers now available in the city, with many current students at the Prince Rupert campus of Coast Mountain College taking positions up around the city.
