CN Rail highlights AquaTrain service to Alaska
Canadian National Railway is showcasing their Aquatrain service to Alaska this month, featuring the transportation option that departs Prince Rupert for Whittier, Alaska in a prominent spot of their website and Social media presentation this month.
The service which has been in place for over 55 years provides for the shortest water route to Alaska, with the 400 foot long barge hosting 8 tracks with a capacity of 48 railcars.
The service operates year round and provides for a six day transit from Prince Rupert to Whittier, which then connects suppliers with the Alaskan oil and mining sectors of the north.
A sixty second video on the CN home page provides for the tour, providing a visual preview for shippers of how their goods can transit from the deepest points of the American South to the farthest point of most northern state of the Union.
With the Alaska Marine Highway System currently suspended to Prince Rupert, access to Alaska through that option is limited to transit from Bellingham, Washington to Ketchikan and then through vessels north.
CN's terminal operations were highlighted by the Port of Prince Rupert as part of their Annual Public Meeting presentation earlier this month.
