One more summer festival goes on hiatus, as Terrace cancels Riverboat Days
Organizers of Terrace's Riverboat Days have made the toughest of calls today.
Despite original plans to try and deliver on the annual August festival, the Organizing committee announced today that the popular Northwest event will not be taking place this year.
In a Facebook Post today the Terrace Riverboat Days Society confirmed the cancellation of the 2020 Riverboat Days, but urged Skeena Valley residents to celebrate the Spirit of the Skeena in their own way, whether in personal events around their homes or virtually.
The impact of COVID and ongoing efforts to reduce its spread was cited as the determining factor in reaching the decision.
While the large scale events that have made the event famous in the past may be deferred for a year, the Riverboat Days Society will be keeping Northwest residents up to date on what community events will be going ahead in the spirit of the Skeena.
You can find those updates as they come along from the Riverboat Days Facebook page.
The cancellation of Riverboat Days follows similar decisions in many communities of the Northwest including Prince Rupert with the Prince Rupert Special Events Society having cancelled the popular June event back in April.
Late last month Seafest organizers announced that along with CityWest Community Television that the community would be hosting a Virtual Seafest, with those looking to participate asked to submit their videos in celebration of the "Tide is Turning".
The Seafest Virtual Parade will be aired on CityWest Community Channel 10/310HD on Saturday, June 27th at 11AM
Learn more about that project from the Prince Rupert Special Events Society Facebook page.
