The Charles Hays Secondary Class of 2020 is ... Virtually there!
Tonight, will be a night unlike many others for the Graduates of Charles Hays Secondary, this year for many other reasons beyond the traditional rite of passage from High School years to what lays ahead.
This year, owing to the ongoing measures related to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Graduation Ceremony traditionally hosted at the Lester Centre was cancelled; the public health measures towards large gatherings making for the shift in focus for the 2020 Grads.
What the School District, officials of Charles Hays and the Grad Parents came up with however, will still keep the tradition of Commencement Night alive for this years Class of 2020, with a Virtual Graduation to air tonight at 7 PM on CityWest Channel 10/HD310.
The event will also be streamed on the CityWest Community Television Facebook page
As we outlined back on May 28th, the Grads were scheduled into groups of 10 and did their walk up and received bursaries and scholarships as in any year.
The logistics of it all coming together from through the week with the ceremonies taking place in the multipurpose room of the Charles Hays campus.
Ensuring that all came together as planned was the Charles Hays Commencement team and Prince Rupert's most in-demand videographer Lonnie Wishart, who provided her artistic talents to make the event one to remember.
Tonight, the Commencement Night video comes to the screen with the Grads to receive a copy of their night by way of USB stick, which will let them commemorate the close of one stage of their lives and the travels towards the future that will come.
Among the outside activities away from the Virtual grad was a Grad Parade which took place in mid afternoon around the city.
Towards 3 PM, Grads and parents were travelling through the city in cars, honking horns and making as much noise as possible to celebrate as they took to the streets.
It marks just one of a number of events to help celebrate the Big Night, while taking note of the COVID measures still in place.
Congratulations to the Class of 2020!
This evening makes for A big night and a Big Step, with many more memories to come!
