City Hall issues a hiring call for Utility Operator position in water treatment
The City of Prince Rupert has put out the Help Wanted sign for July, with a fairly lengthy job description and requirements list for a Utility Operator position, one which addresses current needs and perhaps those for the future, that as the city's water infrastructure program continues to move forward.
Reporting to Operations Management Department, the job posting notes that the successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, inspection and operations of the following:
A small waste water system treatment plant;
Various lift and grinder stations of the waste water collections systems;
Raw and treated water supply system; and
Landfill site treatment facility and lift station.

This position is very unique and has a high expectation of skills, ability and critical thinking. You must be able to provide a high level of commitment to this rewarding position. The candidate will ensure proper functioning of all treatment processes and conduct sampling for compliance results. Other duties will include preventive maintenance on water and sewer pumps and the disinfection system, controls and alarm systems, and chlorine handling.
The successful applicant must meet the physical demands of the position and comply with safe work practices. The ability to work in a team and independently is required along with directing others on the jobsite.
Required to work overtime and weekend on call as operationally necessary to ensure the delivery of potable water to the Community as per the Canadian Drinking Water Guideline. Additional training will be required as new treatment options arise.
