Highway 16 Notice heralds start of long distance journey for oversized load to Site C project


Drive BC has posted an alert for motorists for the week ahead, with the first leg of a province wide journey carrying the runners for the turbines for the Site C Dam construction site set to start from Prince Rupert on Sunday.

The alert for motorists was posted to the Drive BC website last night and notes that motorists should anticipate delays on the Prince Rupert to Terrace leg of the first day of the trip to the Peace region.

The transit of the oversized shipment will begin at 9PM from Prince Rupert with arrival in Terrace anticipated for 6 AM


The runners arrived at the Prince Rupert Harbour in mid December for staging in the Industrial Park and are expected to arrive near Chetwynd by the 14th.

According to this story from Peace country's EnergeticCity.ca news, the runners were constructed in Sao Paolo Brazil, each runner weighs 170 tonnes and is 26 feet wide and 17 feet tall.

These first two runners make for the first of what will be three shipments in total through this year, with the next arrivals at Prince Rupert set for the Spring and Summer of this year.
