Up and down the coast this week members of UFAWU-Unifor will be logging on for a two day convention, the 63rd edition of the annual gathering for the union taking place Thursday February 18th and Friday, February 19th and this year requiring remote participation by Zoom owing to COVID.
The registration period came to an end last week and the agenda and resolutions are now in the final stages of preparation for the convention which opens Thursday at 9AM with the sessions continuing through to 4PM each day.
The development of a New Beginnings Plan will be one theme explored at the two day event, with executive seeking to develop a unified coast when it comes to building the industry back up.
Other elements to be explored during the convention include, resolutions towards the UFAWU-Unifor constitution, concerns over a growing number of issues that threaten the commercial industry, the prospect of extinction for tendermen and the declining opportunities for work for shoreworkers in plants along the coast.
The Prince Rupert office of UFAWU-Unifor has been assisting those participants looking to submit resolutions; providing guidance as to how to properly structure the resolutions for consideration.
